Is the conscious thought the least signigicant part of making an image? Sometimes I wonder. This week, I noticed the light on wall which appealed to me, so I composed a shot without thinking too much about it. I try to get to the point with both a camera and technique so I don't have to think much about the technical side when making a photograph, so I can concentrate on making the image. But sometimes I wonder if there's more going on that I am not aware of, since I tend to get lucky once in awhile. In this case, it was only after looking at the shot later that I noticed the positioning of the new construction of the Shard and even later, the reflection of the street lamp in the glass. I remember being aware of the red signs and the reflected light. That is, unless I had quickly forgotten these elements before I got around to reviewing the photo. That is not so wonderful and a little bit frightening if so. If I have far from a photographic memory, then at least I can still take a photo!A quick studio shot later that day also had what I expected to be a throw away shot being my favourite.
